Objective:

I can identify three strategies Gandhi used to make change.

Warm-Up:  

Make sure your Gandhi film notes are uploaded.
Talk with your partner about about how non-violence can be an effective way to make change.

Agenda:


  1. Quick discussion of satyagraha quotes. Here is a link.
  2. How To Make Change the Gandhi Way book.  This is due by the end of class.  Here is a copy of the assignment (but it is also on Classroom.)

Homework:

Read/notes Chapter 35, Section 2, “The Challenge of Democracy in Africa” (p. 2090-2091, 2095-2098)

Gandhi and Indian Independence

Objective:

I can explain a different means for gaining independence from that of China.
I can explain how Gandhi used non-violent methods to gain  power.

Agenda:


  1. Quick background.
  2. Gandhi film.  The organizer is on Classroom.   It is SUPER important that you watch these clips.  This is a great movie (it won EIGHT Oscars in 1983, beating classics such as Tootsie AND E.T!).  You will need this on Monday.



Homework:

No homework (other than completing the Graphic Organizer for Gandhi movie) !  Be prepared to come in and rock some graded classwork on Monday, though!
