Monday 12/17:  Review for Exam.  You can choose to do Review games OR self-study OR work on photo essay.
HW:  Study and do your assigned work for photo essay.

Tuesday, 12/17:  BLUE class has short answer for exam in first mod.  We will work on photo essays after the break!
HW:  Study

Wednesday 12/18:  Multiple Choice Q2 Exam
HW: BLUE:  Finish your photo essay.  Make sure you have a good sense of your thesis topic.
HW:  ORANGE:  Study for open response.  Start thinking about your thesis topic.

Thursday 12/19:   ORANGE:  Short answer for exam in Mod 1 of our triple.  Then you have time to work on your photo essay.
HW: Finish your photo essay.  Make sure you have a good sense of your thesis topic.

Friday 12/20:  Photo Essay due in both classes.  Quick share.  Work on thesis so we walk into January with topics PICKED.

Objective:


I can work on my photo essay.

Agenda:

1) Discussion of thesis. Here is a link to the topic selection form.
2) Work on Photo Essay -- Find photographs and start determining your thesis.
Fill out Google Doc Graphic Organizer
To-Do's:
  • Make thesis
  • Find photos
  • Make sure you have the BEST photos to prove your point.
  • Make the FIRST slide your context / introductory paragraph.
  • For each of your final images, do the following:
    • Name the image and create a caption for it.
    • Work on your written parts of the project (the introduction / context paragraph and the analysis / conclusion.  
  • Divide up the work plan by the end of class!

Homework:

1) At LEAST your photos should be on the Google Doc by Monday.  I will give a bonus point if you have your captions complete too.
2)  Study for Q2 exam Open Response on Tuesday BLUE and Thursday ORANGE
3)  Multiple Choice Q2 exam for everyone on Wednesday.
4)  Photo Essay submitted to Classroom for Friday.

WW1 Day 8: End of the War / Treaty of Versailles

Objective:

I can connect the Russian Revolution to the importance of the US Entering the War.
I can identify the challenges with the Peace Talks.
I can name at least 2 of the conditions of the Treaty of Versailles.
I can predict 3 ways in which this might not help World War 1 to be the "War to End All Wars"

Agenda:

1) Mini Lecture of the End of the War.  GO is here if you want it.  Video Endings 0 - 3:59

2) Take five minutes in countries to discuss what your country's goals for peace are.
Discuss major conditions of the Treaty of Versailles

3)  Taking a look at the terms of the Treaty of Versailles, label which ones your country would definitely support, definitely NOT support, and would not care.   Which terms of the treaty do you think are the most harsh.-

4)  Aftermath of Treaty of Versailles.  Video:  Aftermath.

WW1 Day 7: Total War and Propaganda

This postcard uses the Union Flag and the icon of the Bulldog to show Britain, Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand and South Africa standing united against a common threat, 1915.

Warm Up:

What do you remember about total war from American Studies?

Objectives:

1) You should be able to identify the reason behind WW I propaganda and identify some of the tactics used to persuade.
2) You should be able to define total war and explain how people's lives on the homefront were impacted by this.

Warm Up:  

-  Turn in your letter, please!
-  Look at map above.  With your partner, discuss why this might be important.

Objective:

I can see how far-reaching World War 1 was.

Agenda:

1)  Discussion of WW1 as a World War
2) Partner Activity  - Read about WW1 Around the World and label map  (10 min)
3)  Go to this site and basically label the countries and offensives in Europe. (5 min)

Homework:

On Google Classroom.
Write me a short paragraph about what YOU think that we should study about World War 1 compared to the state standards.  Was it useful to look at the global impact of the war?  Why?

Warm-Up

Turn and Talk:  How had wars mostly been fought before World War 1?

Objective:

I can see how new technology changed the style and impact of war in World War 1.

Agenda:

1)  Let's look at this image of a painting called LÉnfer  by artist, Georges Leroux.  I sent it over Classroom.
2)  Watch video on how technology is a game changer.
3)  BBC WW1 Technology Game. 
4)  If time, create pitch.

Homework:

For next class, bring in 2 PRINTED copies of  a TYPED DOUBLE SPACED letter home from the point of view of a soldier in the trenches.  Be detailed and clear.  I want specific images and descriptions, and I want a good sense of the emotion that a soldier would feel. Don’t be afraid to do some extra reading and research here.  You can also use the documents and photographs we covered in today’s class to help inform your letter.  You do NOT have to cite information in your letter. This letter should be at least a page long, double spaced, specific, and emotional.
